| Mission The children of Dzachuka region, which is located in Sershul County, Sichuan Province, China (formerly Kham, east Tibet) are the inspiration for the Cultural Granary Program. This project was established by the Danakosha Finland organization, under the spiritual direction of Tulku Dakpa Rinpoche, to respond to the needs expressed by the nomadic and semi-nomadic communities in the region. The project is one of the most important charity projects of Tulku Dakpa Rinpoche.
Our mission is to cooperate with the people of the region and assist in realizing their vision of a thriving community grounded in Tibetan culture and values; a community whose members are entitled to share in the benefits of a healthy local economy, a protected environment and good opportunities for education. We aim to help realize this vision by building and supporting schools in the region, as well as providing medical care for the students attending the schools.
Challenges Although the level of education is generally adequate in the urban areas of Tibet, it is still extremely difficult in the rural areas to get basic education in reading, writing, and mathematics skills. The Dzachuka region's remote location, with altitudes over 4000 meters, and the lack of infrastructure in the area contribute to the problems experienced especially by nomadic families with sending their children to school. Even though the number of competent teachers is increasing, they cannot teach in the region because school buildings and living facilities do not exist. Although primary school education is compulsory also in Tibet, the financial responsibility for building a school is often left to the villagers, and because of low income, they are not able to start such a venture.
Strategy
To be effective in assisting the children of Dzachuka, our strategy is to cooperate with international grassroots organizations and foundations to raise funds as well as operate the cooperation development projects in east Tibet. Our partner for operations in Dzachuka is the Swedish-Tibetan Society for School and Culture. The society has 20 years experience operating in Tibet. Our first project is to build a primary school for fifty girls and fifty boys. We are also starting Sponsor a Child, and Teacher's Fund programs.
How can I help? We would be very grateful for donations of any size towards the school building. You can also help by sponsoring a child or contributing to the Teacher's Fund. If you are interested in sponsoring a child, please contact the program director for more information. Other donations can be made by bank transfer to:
