Due to the requests of both the monastery and village of Gegong throughout many years, we have seen directly that many lives of a young generation are becoming wasted.

One of the most important things is protecting one's culture and developing education, as well as giving circumstances for education and advice for well-being. If one generation of one century does not take care of their culture, we lose the culture of the whole people. As a footprint of wisdom of previous generations, the beings of this generation have a priceless and important culture. Its continuation in this world lies very much on the hands of the people of this generation. Therefore we have a big responsibility.

We at Danakosha Aid take great joy in helping others, particularly those who have strong faith in us, and who rely on us. We use various direct and indirect methods to help them. This year the representatives of Gegong monastery and village came down to Chengdu in China, and brought with them letters with signatures of four hundred families saying that they really need help from Tulku Dakpa Rinpoche and the people of Danakosha. We talked with those representatives for three days only about Gegong monastery and village, and they gave extensive accounts of the happiness and sufferings of their daily lives. Due to that in the entire sangha of Danakosha arose a new feeling, a readiness to help as much as they can. Next month we started to help Gegong through many different methods, such as fundraising, building an educational center and taking care of our environment, as well as keeping the spiritual path well.

We are really asking for your kindness, generosity and support to realize this project. Everything depends very much on your help.

Educational project in Gegong, Tibet

Danakosha Aid has established an educational project to support the people of Gegong village. The project has been started together with Gegong monastery, with the goal of maintaining the local culture and increasing community's well-being.

Gegong village is situated in Dzachuka, an area of of Northern Sichuan province in the Tibetan area of Kham. The people living in Gegong area are nomads. They live in harsh conditions and often lack of educational and health facilities.

Since 2008, Danakosha Aid has been searching for different ways to help the nomad community. As requested by the local people themselves, Danakosha Aid has decided to help the community by building an educational center. It will serve as a place for educational and cultural activities for both nomad children and their parents.

In the beginning, educational center will serve over 60 children. They will be able to study writing and reading, among other subjects. Teaching will be given in the children's mother tongue, Tibetan, and according to the local cultural customs. Over time the amount of students will be increased. The building will also serve as a student dormitory, an adult education center and as a place for visiting health worker and community meetings.
